Why some projects are vital for your life? Saturday, Nov 29 2008

Dissertation is one of the most vital projects during the whole period of your study. Some students believe that dissertation is just another academic paper, which differs just in terms of scope and has the same structure as the term paper and essay have. However, one should not forget that dissertation should include one important part that is absent in other academic papers- this part is thesis. The purpose of it, apart from stating your main contention, is to show the reader that you have made some research and have made some contribution to the knowledge on this subject. Your contribution to the knowledge is evaluated by the answers to the main problem of your research.

Remember, that your tutor already knows much on the subject of your research, and his main task to teach you how to gain some new knowledge, using existing resources and published sources. In order however to present your dissertation thesis, one should back your contention up with references. One should show that you use reputable sources and that the problem is worth your research and has not been answered previously. I would like to single out this particular phrase- “has not been answered”, because the problem or at least similar question might have been researched, however no definite answer on the problem so far has been obtained. Your purpose is to provide this answer in your dissertation thesis.

Certainly if you already study at Graduate school, you dissertation thesis may not be the first thesis you encounter; you might have already developed and defended your mast er thesis. However, this kind of thesis differs in many respects from dissertation thesis. You should understand that whereas your master thesis represented succinct statement of the major points of your argument, your dissertation thesis should reveal some new knowledge on existing problem.

In spite of the fact that thesis writing is one of the most common assignments, many students still can not understand why it is necessary to complete it. What is the main purpose of this type of academic project? Regardless whether it is a dissertation thesis, or master thesis, one of the main purposes of this assignment is to teach students to develop their presentation and persuasive skills, valuable skills for any career. In today’s modern world you will have to provide succinct and persuasive information on some important aspects.

Undoubtedly it is worth your while to study how to develop your arguments and defend them, while you study at the school. Do not succumb to common and wrong mistake - thinking that it is possible to acquire these skills at your job place. Certainly, at your work you will acquire some skills, experience and knowledge, you have not acquired at the University, however, the period of your study at the college and the university represents the best time for this acquirement.

Learning Math and Dosage Calculations Using a Computer Program Friday, Nov 28 2008

Introduction

In nursing particularly, absolute competence is a must as patients’ welfare is directly connected to any action or decision that you take. Give the wrong dosage or medication and a patient can be killed. Naturally, this can have devastating consequences so it is absolutely crucial that you take all the precautions in keeping up to date and maintaining your skills.

Dosage calculations are no exception and the reported cases of medication errors on an annual basis is very high. Despite this, many nurses absolutely fear performing calculations of any sort! Why is this? Most likely because the calculations involve a knowledge of maths and maths can be a daunting task - especially if it has been a long time since you studied at school or university.

The reality of the situation however, is not as bleak as it often appears to nurses. To perform dosage calculations you really only need a very basic level of math skills. Basic means a level that really does not exceed primary school: fractions, decimals, percentages and ratios.

But how do you learn and maintain your skills in maths? Well there really are 3 ways:

1> Through a textbook

2> Using Software

3> Hiring a private tutor (which generally requires a lot of money)

1. Textbooks

Learning math from a textbook can be unsettling - often because it brings back memories of a screaming teacher throwing algebra problems in front of you while you anxiously try and avoid looking directly at them just in case they ask you to go to the front of the class and solve the problem in front of all your class mates!

Textbooks can also be notoriously dry and have their own limitations in terms of interactivity and efficiency of learning. They rarely account for people who don’t like (or can’t) read very well and have a limited range of questions.

2. Software

Software has a number of advantages - the main one being the fact that it offers an extremely interactive way to develop your skills without having to open a book. Questions are in the thousands, difficulty levels are included to cater for all skill levels and you receive instant feedback to your answers (without having to look at the back of a textbook for the answer). Further most features are only a simple click away. Repetitive practice suddenly isn’t such a dry chore but more of a personal challenge to beat your best score!

Most Software packages even cater for the computer phobic as they use large buttons and a simple “click on where you want to go system”. Before you know it your math and computer skills will be improving!

In a world in which computer are becoming general household items computer based education is slowly replacing textbook based methods for its many advantages.

3. Private Tutor

Probably best for the wealthy but you will still be referred to a textbook or computer program to develop your skills!

Multiculturalism in School Curriculum Wednesday, Nov 26 2008

Copyright 2005 Adam Waxler

What is multiculturalism in school curriculum?

Personally, I disagree with the many teachers today who are pushing the notion that in order to teach multiculturalism in school curriculum, teachers must actually move away from the traditional curriculum. Yes, we must move away from the textbook, but not necessarily the curriculum.

Don’t get me wrong, teachers must include all the cultures that make up our history, but we must not do so in a way that we are forced to pull out each culture and teach it as a separate entity such as Black History Month or Women’s History Month. This is not multicultural education, but rather what I call “intellectual segregation” and it is wrong. All cultures should be taught throughout all the units in order to be a truly multicultural education. Having separate months for different cultures is exactly the opposite of what a true multicultural education should be trying to achieve.

Nor do we have to move away from the traditional curriculum to a theme based curriculum as many suggest. Different cultures and perspectives can and should be incorporated throughout the various units within the traditional curriculum. For example, when teaching the Progressive Era (part of the traditional curriculum), my students work in pairs to write and present an interview on one person from the time period. I provide students with information from a variety of perspectives and from a variety of races and genders. I do the same for many of my units.

Another example is from my World War II unit. Part of the curriculum is life on the “home front” during World War II. My students are split into groups with each group receiving information on a different group of Americans (African-Americans, women, children, Mexican-Americans etc.). Students use the information they are provided to create a five minute newscast about their particular group and present the newscast to the rest of the class.

Likewise, in my unit on Vietnam, students examine various perspectives on the war from various groups of Americans from different genders and races before they write their five paragraph essay arguing whether they think the U.S. should be praised or condemned for their involvement in Vietnam. The students are allowed to form their own opinions and arguments. My job is simply to provide them with the information and be objective.

Honestly, I can go on and on providing example after example, but my point is this: The traditional curriculum can be taught in way that is truly a multicultural education, that addresses various perspectives and allows students to draw their own conclusions.

The beauty of teaching multicultural history in this manner is that it also addresses how students learn. Arguing and judging are at the highest level of Bloom’s taxonomy and by having students make arguments and back up those arguments, whether you as the teacher agree with them or not, is how students will retain information. Fortunately, this retention will also translate into higher standardized test scores.

The bottom line is this: We can teach a variety of perspectives and cultures on a given curriculum in a student-centered classroom that inspires active learning and also increases standardized test scores.

Isn’t it time for you to get the online degree from the best University? Tuesday, Nov 25 2008

Top jobs are like a lottery; you have to be “In it” to win it. “In it” means you have to be a player with a right degree, masters or PhD to be in the game of top jobs. But if you don’t have it you will not be able to join the game of top jobs. It’s just simple as that. Luckily online universities and colleges have made it possible for anyone to become a player.

Most people would like to be in the game but unfortunately they search and read the rules again and again without any outcome. Today there are 100s of online universities and colleges that offer numerous online degree and diploma courses and therefore, leave you with no excuse about a degree that you never had a chance to acquire.

The only problem is that you have so many different universities, colleges, courses etc that it is difficult to choose one. The first thing you would need to decide about is your criteria, what course you want to do? Can you afford it? Have you got the time and are you ready to make a commitment to give time to your studies? Are you self-motivated? If the answer is yes then bingo you have got it all.

After that the only thing you need to do is to pick one of the 100s of universities and colleges and enroll in a course. It’s easy, isn’t it? Or may be not so easy.

The things to consider about choosing a university or college would obviously starts from the cost. Some universities and colleges are expensive so might not be within your budget, but most of them are relatively cheaper than traditional one. Don’t forget you will be saving on traveling, outfits etc anyway doesn’t matter whichever you choose.

Convenience is also another great advantage of online courses. In most universities you can enroll in anytime of the year. You can carry on with your life and still manage to log in when you have time and continue with your studies. The question to consider is how many days you need to log in and study in a week? Some Universities require you to log in about 4 days a week, while others are not so strict.

The accreditation is another important aspect, which you must consider. Universities and colleges are normally regulated and supervised by the regional authorities. There were some fake universities and colleges around but luckily these types don’t last that long and normally disappear quickly. You can find some good and reputable universities and colleges also you can search for courses on http://www.schoolsearch.be

Another thing, which is important, is the duration of the course, some universities or colleges requires a commitment of at least 2 years while others, which are also accredited institutes, may issue you a degree based upon your previous work experiences. You can find them as well on the above website address.

Now its up to you to either get into the game and become a player or continue with your life and your search for a better future.

Immerse Yourself In The Greek Language And Culture Tuesday, Nov 25 2008

The Greek language is over 3,500 years old, though it has evolved through the years. Over 15 million people worldwide speak Greek. It is the official language of Greece and Cyprus, and is spoken natively by immigrants living in many countries around the world. The Greek alphabet is considered the first real alphabet, and was a predecessor of the Latin alphabet, and eventually our own alphabet. The Greek language is one of history and passion, and is an ideal representative of the people who speak is fluently. If you are interested in learning a second language, consider Greek.

Learning the Greek language might seem intimidating. The alphabet doesn’t look exactly like the English alphabet. The word pronunciation sounds totally different as well. But there are several ways you can go about learning it, and several benefits to doing so. One option is to attend college, and study the language extensively. You have the choice of studying the Ancient form of Greek, or the Modern language. Learning Ancient Greek is useful if you plan to study Ancient Greek art, archaeology, literature, or history, and you intend to pursue this scholarly field. Earning a college degree in Modern Greek will provide you with a thorough written and conversational knowledge of the language that is spoken today, and gives you career options down the road. Having the ability to speak more than one language can have many advantages for you professionally. If you are fluent in the Greek language, and have some expertise in another field such as law, medicine, or business, you can be certified as a foreign language translator. This stimulating career prospect is one that offers you several options. As a certified translator, you can work full-time for a foreign language translation firm, translating business documents, web pages, and other types of communication for global corporations or for small firms looking branch out. You can also do freelance translation work, where you have the ability to be your own boss, and make your own schedule and set you own workload. Yet another career opportunity open to you as a bilingual professional is to teach English as a second language to Greek students in Greece. By knowing English and Greece, you will be able to live and work in Greece, and have no problems communicating there.

Another means by which you can learn the Greek language is by enrolling in an accelerated course that is available online. By learning Greek in this way, you will gain knowledge of a very basic foundation of the language. Learning Greek through an accelerated online course is a rather quick and convenient way to learn a second language. It is ideal for you if you are interested in traveling to Greece, and you want to be able to communicate in a basic way with the residents there. You will find that you will enjoy your travels much more if the stress of a communication barrier is not there.

An ideal option for learning the Greek language is through an immersion program. This is a perfect option for students who are looking to study abroad for a semester, or for bold travelers looking to experience Greek culture in a new and exciting way. You will not only learn the Modern Greek language, but you experience the vibrant and historic Greek culture. Learning Greek in Greece, where our own language and history has its origins, you will learn the language quickly and easily. You will learn the conversational and informal styles of the language by interacting everyday during your adventure with people who are native Greeks, who probably won’t be willing or able to communicate in English. You will be absorbed into the dazzling everyday life of the Greek people, its sights, sounds, and smells. You will gain knowledge and appreciate the storied Greek culture: the history, the art, the architecture, the food, and the people. As a part of the immersion program, you will attend courses in which you will learn the Greek alphabet, how to read, and how to write in Greek as well. Learning the Greek language as part of an immersion is a superb way to experience a new culture.

Learning the Greek language, though seemingly intimidating, can have many benefits for you. Knowing a second language gives you the potential to further develop you career by working abroad, or as a translator. Learning the Greek language will make you a better traveler as well. You will be able to communicate with the Greek people, and you will enjoy your adventures in Greece so much more. Learning Greek is a great way to open your eyes to a new (and ancient) culture.

Send Them To Military School! Sunday, Nov 23 2008

While many parents dread the thought, a military school may just be the right solution for your child. Many children who attend these types of schools find themselves in better places after they have completed. And, while you may be thinking that the environment is much too harsh for your child, you should be considering the opportunities that are available to them for attending such a school in the first place.

There are normally two types of parents who are looking into using a military school. The first one is the one that has had military schools used throughout their family’s history. Or, perhaps these are individuals who find the environment to be the perfect location to develop their children in. The other type of parent considering a military school is the one that is having difficulty with their defiant child. In this case, while the military school environment may be helpful, it needs to be presented in the right manner first.

It is an honor and a privilege for a child to be allowed to attend one of these schools. The structured environment teaches discipline, core human values, as well as dedication, perseverance, and honor. When children attend a school such as these, they are able to find their true self and they can then set forth to do just about anything that they have wanted to do in their lives. Military school is, then, an opportunity for you to provide your child with the very best in education in both schoolwork and lifework.

Parents considering a military school should note that there are some excellent opportunities out there for them. You will find a wide range of options and you will likely be able to choose the one that best fits your child’s needs and your goals. This environment is a positive, structured and private one in which children are able to excel.

Custom Flag Printing - is White a Color? Saturday, Nov 22 2008

This question I don’t really get asked its more I see when a person requests a quote and say’s “I would like a custom flag made using my logo the colors in my logo are navy blue, red, yellow and white”

After being a custom flag maker for many years I have found out that many flag manufacturers out there especially the one’s on the internet say that the custom flag above is 4 colors when they send the quote.

I would like to tell you right now! This is not true!! The flag above is only 3 colors WHY? White is not a color !

When we screen print onto the flag material if there are 6 colors in your logo then we will use 6 colors eg: blue, red, yellow, green, black, violet.

The color white is not used, the material is white so when we make the film to use to screen print your logo the part which is supposed to be white we don’t use any color.

So next time you go to have a custom flag made be shore they don’t charge you for the color white. If you have white in your logo the flag makers will use white material, most flags are screen printed on white material anyway.

Jason Littlewood of Custom flag makers has been making flags for many years supplying every day people with decorative custom flags see his and the teams work at http://www.custom-flag-makers.com.

Many People Around the World Hate the United States Saturday, Nov 22 2008

Should we be overly concerned that radical, fanatical, fundamentalists hate Americans? Does it matter what those minds think as they are so utterly clouded in their religions and hate? Many in the United States are quick to point out that as a nation we are not liked so much and they say that everyone hates Americans.

I understand the World Media Hit on the US as the French really went for it, while hiding their tracks in the Oil for Food scandals and wanting to get repaid for loans, but acceptance these tall tales of “big bad America” willy nilly seems to speak of hypocrisy from someone purporting to be one of a learned man. Thus, those who hate America because a Cleric, fanatic leader, or the World Media tells them too, is a problem, but those who do live in a created reality not the real one. Therefore must be admonished for having little if any usable cranial capacity.

Americans should be more concerned about doing what is right than what is popular and we should all be speaking highly of the United States of America, rather than agreeing with these media attacks. We should not allow the hatred to fester by agreeing with such non-sense. Why so you ask?

Well, because the United States of America is by far the greatest single nation ever created in the history of this worthless species. And if you do not think the rest of the world is corrupt beyond belief, well then you just have not traveled very much that’s all. Consider all this in 2006.
